A PORTRAIT OF HOME

The Bow, Backwell, nr Bristol (as it was in the 1930's)

Commissioned to recall a childhood home

Home is a name, a word, it is a strong one; stronger than magician ever spoke, or spirit ever
answered to, in the strongest conjuration.

Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.

Home is where one starts from.
T. S. Eliot

I start with the photographs you've sent me or the ones I've taken myself. Every drawing is different, just as every Home is unique. How do you see your Home - where's your favourite place to stand to cast your eyes over it? Any feature that distracts can be omitted - you may want to add a detail - a figure perhaps - to the overall scene.

Perhaps - like the example at the top of the page - the house is no longer your Home but a treasured memory of childhood. It might be commissioned as a gift - a surprise for spouse, parent, friend, colleague or client. It could be a source of pride, achievement - or pure nostalgia for times past.

Mine are simple pencil drawings - natural graphite laid upon acid free acrylic paper. They are affordable yet rich in detail. Sizes start from approximately 10"x7" (25x17.50cms) and are mounted with neutral ph non-acidic white core, which will stay white for the life time of the board.

If you wish, the image can be reproduced on notelets, postcards, invitations - place mats and coasters - saved to CD so you can use it on web sites or emails. The original drawing or these supplementaries can be sent anywhere you like. The picture can be supplied framed or simply mounted - whichever you choose.
